Arsenal look set to bolster their squad with the capture of talented centre-back Jurrien Timber

Arsenal have reportedly reached a deal to sign Jurrien Timber from Ajax this summer, with the centre-back already giving the north London giants the green light over a transfer. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his squad in the coming weeks after seeing his side narrowly miss out on landing the Premier League trophy last season.

Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of stars this summer as Arteta attempts to take his team one step further in the top-flight next time around. And, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are now advancing on full agreement on personal terms with Timber. The star has accepted to move to the Emirates Stadium, with negotiations between Arsenal and Ajax and a new bid expected soon.

Timber came through the Ajax academy after joining the club from Feyenoord as a youngster. He was handed his first-team debut in 2020 and has gone on to make 121 appearances for the side, winning two Eredivisie titles and the Dutch Cup in the process.

The 22-year-old, who still has two years remaining on his Ajax contract, wasn’t able to prevent his team suffering a hangover from the departure of Erik ten Hag last season as they ended the campaign 13 points behind champions Feyenoord. And he now looks set to embark on a new chapter of his career.

Timber had been tipped to link-up with his former mentor Ten Hag at Manchester United, with the Red Devils also on the hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer, while Bayern Munich are also reported to be interested in the star. But it now appears Arsenal have become the frontrunners to prise the star away from Holland.

Earlier this week, De Telegraaf reported that Timber had set his sights on a move to Arsenal. And the Dutch outlet insisted Ajax and the Gunners would find each other with a transfer fee despite the fact Arsenal’s opening bid of £30million was well short of the Dutch club’s £51.5m asking price.
